Bajrang Punia has been embellished with the Civilian Order Padma Shri with the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind. The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and Jakarta Asian Games gold-medallist wrestlers are among the nine sportspersons and 112 prominent achievers of maximum order to be adorned with the celebrated Padma Awards. The awardees come from the civilian provider fields, such as training, sports, art, common carrier, etc. The awards were distributed to 56 men and women at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi today (Monday). The other 56 will be embellished on March 16 (Saturday). Bajrang Punia, Sharath Kamal and Harika
Dronavalli has been the first batch to get hold of the honor from the President. Punia, who won returned to lower back gold medals in the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games closing year, has also bagged a silver medal at the World Chthe Championships and a bronze medal in the Ainan Championships final year. TablyearTennis ace Kamal had a stellar 2018 as he bagged as many as four medals at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. He gained an elusive gold medal in the Men’s group occasion and captured silver and bronze medals in the Men’s Double,
Men’s Singles and Mixed Doubles categories, respectively. Indian Kabaddi team captain Ajay Thakur was also honored with the Padma Shri for his elite services to the game. India gained the Kabaddi Masters match in Dubai in the remaining year under his management. Punia’s remaining year has been in avoidable headlines after
being denied the maximum sports honor, Rajiv Khel Ratna, despite his overall performance in the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. Perturbed by the abject apathy of the government, the ace wrestler had pondered taking the legal route to defend his interest. He, however, later modified his mind and frivolously moved out of the controversy. The fourth highest civilian honor, the Padma Shri, incorporates a quotation, certificates, and a medallion given below the hand and the seal of the President of India.
